Live Coronavirus Coverage

Our round up of what's been happening in the world of flexible packaging.

KM Packaging team move home

We’re all set up! We have full operational remote access to all our systems … we’ve got Zoom … and we’re up and running from our various homes. It has been a good week supporting our customers and working with our suppliers and hauliers, all facing the same challenges of getting to grips with remote teams. And we did it together.

Settling into home working

On LinkedIn, our Print Services Manager, Kerry Wilson, said: “We are so fortunate to work for KM where the directors have enabled us all to be fully equipped to work from home and to be able to offer full service to our customers and carry on working with suppliers.”

And John Shipley, Business Unit Director, added: “Well said. I’ve found I’ve also talked to or communicated with a lot more people I haven’t for ages.”

In other news …

You’d be forgiven for feeling submerged in “mono news”, with coronavirus being the only topic. But there are still other important items. For example:

  • Plastics Tax – the government has launched a consultation, open until May 20th, on the detailed design and implementation of the tax.
  • Food Waste – WRAP has published guidance for food growers on measuring in-field food surplus and waste.
  • Sustainability – a Bill has been introduced requiring UK policymakers to consider long-term environmental sustainability.

Hopefully, through this “Wrap Up” and other channels, you can still keep up-to-date. And, on the subject of “mono news”, we will shortly be sharing more information on KM’s mono-material packaging solutions that are designed for recyclability. Watch this space!

And finally …

  • The Plastics Paradox – in a new book, a leading scientist reveals the facts about plastics and the environment. And he reveals that almost everything we have been told is untrue. Here is a Q&A with the author.
  • Polymer Ambassadors – over 2500 school pupils have had a bespoke science lesson delivered by trained “polymer ambassadors” from the British Plastics Federation (BPF). We’re wondering if this and other schemes could now be delivered digitally while many of the pupils are at home?
  • Bug Feeds on Plastic – a bacterium that feeds on toxic plastic has been discovered by scientists.

From the KM team … Stay Safe, Keep up the Good Work, Help Others.
