Let it breathe: perfect packaging for steaming produce

Time-poor consumers and food processing companies both gain significant benefits from our steam venting functionality, including:

  • increasing the shelf-life of fresh produce, and
  • reducing in-pack cooking time.

Ideally suited to the microwave steam cooking of fresh vegetables, fish and seafood, our lidding films enhanced with our steam venting technology enable pressure to build within the tray during cooking, resulting in shorter cooking times and the retention of excellent flavour, moisture, texture and nutritional content.

Seals are easily peelable following cooking with no compromise to seal security during distribution and retail.

As well as its ability to steam cook vegetables in the microwave, this enhanced lidding film allows fresh vegetables to ‘breathe’ for longer through the process of packaging, distribution and retail ensuring longer shelf life and increased freshness. Available as a peel seal or weld seal, this lidding film can be supplied with or without Anti-Fog.

In today’s pressurised retail environment shoppers are looking for the best solutions that will save them the most time but with no detriment to the eating experience in terms of flavour and texture. This lidding film offers the best of both worlds: improved shelf life combined with reduced cooking time.

Lifting the Lid on Plastic: How the “greatest thing since sliced bread” became toast

Plastic was once hailed as the greatest thing since sliced bread. It was seen as the miracle product that transformed modern living more than any other invention.

Today, the headlines have a different focus. They now shout about plastics polluting our planet. In actual fact, plastics are not inherently bad and, as well as having a wide range of important uses, they play a vital role in solving many environmental problems.

And a step into the history of plastic also reveals it may have been seen as the greatest thing BEFORE sliced bread as it predates the 1928 baking invention by a number of years.

Lifting the Lid on Plastic: Any colour as long as it’s not black

Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black. Those were the words of Henry Ford about the Model T which, in 1913, became the first automobile to be built on a moving assembly line.

Black was chosen at the time because it was inexpensive and fast-drying and assisted the speed of assembly.

You could be forgiven for thinking the same statement was previously applied to food trays. Not so long ago, supermarkets’ ready-meal and fresh food shelves appeared to be almost completely stacked with black plastic trays.
