KM team give their time to help the hungry and lonely

Graduate trainee Konrad Webster is our latest team member to volunteer at FoodCycle, in Peterborough. FoodCycle is a charity project that supports people who are hungry and lonely by providing daily meals across the country.

Konrad was able to participate through our Best Place to Work scheme that was set up to develop the KM Packaging values, both internally and externally, and to be recognised in the community as a responsible company.

We have previously chosen to support FoodCycle through charity donations. Each month now, two team members can take time out from work to volunteer at the local FoodCycle project. They are helping to welcome guests and distribute the cooked food and bags of food, fruit and vegetables.

Konrad said: “I chose to participate because it’s gratifying to be able to give something back to the local community.

“I could see that FoodCycle were reducing food waste and providing hot, nutritious meals for those who were in need, so it was the least I could do.”

During Konrad’s time with FoodCycle, the guests received:

  • 80 main meals and desserts.
  • 40-50 bags of basic ingredients / household food items.
  • 40 bags of fruit and veg as well as some milkshakes.

Konrad added: “I usually donate money to charities and have done some fundraising in the past, but it’s a lot different being hands-on and interacting with those who benefit.
“It was an enjoyable experience, very fast-paced, and deeply rewarding. It’s not every day that you are given the opportunity to volunteer and help out a great project while also reducing food waste!”
